First of all, I noticed I didn't post their official weights - so here you go. Thanks for reminding me Natalie :) They were way off on their weights from the usound a few days ago but that's okay - they're still good sizes.
JAXON: 3 lbs 10 oz
AUSTIN: 4 lbs 2 oz
RIO: 4 lbs
CARES: Each day they have what the NICU calls "cares" which entails changing them, taking their temperature and cleaning out their mouths with a yummy peppermint flavored swab so their mouths aren't dry and we keep them clean. They do these "cares" every time they eat which is every 3 hours.
EATING: Like I said, every 3 hours for now. Each day, the nurses increase their feeding amounts and they are doing well. They all have feeding tubes in since they aren't quite nursing yet but we are learning how - all of us :) They eat a type of formula for now through their nose tubes. They are so sweet and are trying so hard but they tire out pretty easily.
*I am pumping like crazy trying to get the ball started and it is slowly but surely moving along. I'm so glad - I really want them to be able to have all they need to bring them home ASAP whether that is formula or other.
MEDICATIONS: Not much - they are all taking a 7 day dose of antibiotics since we never did know who may have had a leak in their sac and they want to make sure that is treated. No other major medication is needed for any of them.
NO BABY RELEASE DATE YET: I am leaving tomorrow for sure - can't wait to be at my house after a full month as of today. I can't believe how long I've been here but I cannot tell you how sad I am to leave my babies here. I hate being so far from them but we are so lucky to only live a short distance away and not far, far away. We can come back as often as possible and probably will too.
*We aren't sure what the "specific requirements" are for the babies to come home but we do know they are progressing. Here's some key points:
*they were put in isolettes to see if they could maintain their body temps and Austin and Rio have done great and will be out in a few days :) Yeah! I was thinking that was a step backward but actually is just confirms what is going right so I was okay with that after a long cry in the NICU.
*(Rio got her IV tube out of her belly today! Woo-hoo! We were so excited because that meant that we could finally hold her and feed her. She is so sweet! It was so cute to watch Spence hold her - he is so sweet to her.
*They all continue to breathe great on their own and so that is awesome - we couldn't be happier about that.
That is it for now. I'll keep updating even if sometimes it takes me a few days.
They look GREAT!! I am so glad they are here.. I know the ups and downs of the NICU- they will do great, how are they for A's and B's?? Love them, preemie's are such fun little miracles. Glad your able to get home.. Hopefully get some sleep, I would love to come visit when your ready for visitors.. Hugs.. I thought that Austin was the smaller baby - I thought Jaxon was the bigger guy.. No matter what they look GREAT. Glad Rio has her iv out of her button :)
ReplyDeleteTake care, I am here for ya.
They are SO CUTE! I am glad to hear they are doing good. I hope they get to come home soon, that has to be hard to leave your babies there, but they are undere such great care. Get rest while you are at home :)

Summer! They look so great! I'm so happy for you. Reading through your blog makes me think of 8 months ago when we were in the NICU. I had many good cries in there. Thank heavens for wonderful nurses. We'll be thinking about you!

So glad you are going home! We are praying for the babes to get to that point too! Glad Rio is off her IV, I can imagine your joy in holding her, the tiny little thing! I love Austin's little mouth and chin and I love the fullness of Jaxon's cheeks for such a tiny guy. Enjoy being "home again", my friend! Love you!
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for a little while now. Congratulations on 3 beautifully healthy babies! I hope you have them home soon.
ReplyDeleteSummer & Spencer,
ReplyDeleteSOOO happy to see these little ones here and safe and healthy. Bonnie was so proud of all of you and rightly so..Summer, get your rest because you are in for the ride of your life!
(Amy was a little jealous..said you were WAY more efficient in family planning than she was..3 at a shot!) I did 5 c-sections and 5 babies, so I agreed with Amy--much more efficient your way ;)
They are beautiful!
Keep us updated!

I'll keep checking the blog for updates. They are adorable! (they meaning the babies, but the updates are adorable too:)
ReplyDeleteTake Care-
